You can ask the Citizenship Office to check if someone is a citizen.

Get information about your citizenship

If you are not sure if you are a citizen, call the Citizenship Office. They can tell you:

  • if you are a citizen
  • how you got citizenship
  • the date you got citizenship
  • your New Zealand citizenship number.

Get information about someone else’s citizenship

You may be able to ask for information about someone else’s citizenship. For example, you might need to know the citizenship status of a parent or grandparent so you can claim New Zealand citizenship.
