Renew or replace a child passport

Renewing a child's passport costs $120. Child passports are valid for 5 years. Once a child turns 16 their passport is valid until it expires or is cancelled. After that, they must renew their passport as an adult.

If your child is aged 16 or over:

They must renew their passport as an adult.

Renew your adult passport

To renew a child passport online, you must have a:

  • child’s passport already, even if it’s expired, lost, stolen or damaged
  • RealMe login — if you do not have one you can create one during the online application
  • identity referee — a non-family member who has known your child for more than 1 year or since birth
  • passport photo
  • credit, debit or Prezzy® card.

The fastest way to apply for a passport is online – no paper, postage or visits to the office needed. Paper applications can take longer as they need extra processing.
