Get help to manage your money

Find support to understand your finances, manage debt, and make the most of your money using budgeting tools and practical advice.

Talk to a free financial mentor

A financial mentor (also known as a budget advisor) is a trained professional who provides guidance to help you:

  • understand your financial situation
  • deal with your immediate money problems
  • manage debt
  • create a budget
  • design a financial plan to achieve your goals
  • make informed money decisions
  • find other people or services that may be able to help.

In New Zealand, free financial mentoring is available through community organisations and budgeting services. Some offer support in person, while others can help on the phone, via email or online.

When you meet with a financial mentor, it helps to bring your bank statements, bills and details of any money you owe. Everything you share is confidential.
