Digital wallet and credentials
Learn how the Govt.nz digital wallet works, what credentials you can store, and how your information is kept secure and private.
Your digital wallet
Credentials are expected to be available in the Govt.nz wallet from October 2026.
Store digital versions of your licences, IDs and qualifications in one secure place. Share only the information needed to prove things about yourself or access services.
Your digital wallet keeps trusted credentials safe on your device, so you can prove who you are or what you’re qualified for without carrying the physical version.
You choose which credentials to add. They stay on your device, protected by your device’s biometrics — like fingerprint or face recognition.
You’re always in control of what you share, and who you share it with, online or in person.
A number of accredited issuers are developing digital credentials.
