The New Zealand Police work to keep everyone safe and feeling safe.

They operate 24 hours a day, handling more than a million incidents each year. This includes hundreds of thousands of emergency and non‑emergency calls.

The functions of the NZ Police include:

  • keeping the peace
  • maintaining public safety
  • law enforcement
  • crime prevention
  • community support and reassurance
  • national security
  • participation in policing activities outside New Zealand
  • emergency management.

The New Zealand Police also support the New Zealand Refugee Quota Programme, led by Immigration New Zealand. This includes providing orientation sessions at the Māngere Refugee Resettlement Centre and in regional resettlement locations.
