For civil cases, they decide on claims of up to $200,000.

In criminal cases they cover minor offences, but can also conduct trials for some serious offences, such as rape and aggravated robbery.

They hear major crimes and civil claims involving more than $200,000. They deal with judicial reviews of administrative action and admiralty proceedings.

They also hear appeals from tribunals and lower courts, including the District Court.
