Easy to use
Simple interface that makes it easy to scan, validate and view digital credential information.
Offline functionality

How NZ Verify works
Cryptographic check
NZ Verify confirms the credential’s digital signature against the issuing authority’s public key — proving it’s genuine and has not been altered.
Validity check
The app checks the expiry date and consults up-to-date revocation lists to confirm the credential is still current.
Acceptability check
The app checks the credential can be used for specific use selected, for example, age verification for alcohol purchase.
Result displayed
If every check passes, a green screen shows ‘valid’ along with the specific information you requested. A red screen means the credential failed verification.
Who can use NZ Verify
Any organisation that needs to verify a person’s identity or credentials in person. For example:
- NZ Police — roadside driver licence checks
- Car rental companies — licence verification at the counter

Privacy and security
NZ Verify is built on the principle that verification should never come at the cost of privacy.
- No data retained — nothing is stored on the device or transmitted to a server.
- No tracking — the app cannot be used to track credential holders. No personal identifying information is collected or transmitted.
- Screenshots blocked — screen capture and screen recording are disabled within the app, protecting the credential holder’s information.
- Trusted issuers only — only digital credentials from trusted issuers can be verified using the NZ Verify app. That means they must be accredited by the New Zealand government’s Trust Framework Authority or be an international mobile driver licence.
