What you can do with NZ Verify

Digital credential verification

NZ Verify can currently verify these ISO 18013-5 compliant mobile driver licences:

  • United States mobile driver licences — Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Utah, Virginia.
  • Australia mobile driver licence — Queensland.

The range of credentials that can be verified using NZ Verify will expand as more become available.

Secure authentication

The app uses a cryptographic check to confirm the credentials are genuine and unaltered.

The privacy of people’s data is protected. NZ Verify is built on the principle that verification should never come at the cost of privacy.

  • No data retained — the app does not keep any information after verification. Nothing is stored on the device or transmitted to a server.
  • No tracking — the app cannot be used to track credential holders. No personal identifying information is collected or transmitted.
  • Screenshots blocked — screen capture and screen recording are disabled within the app, protecting the credential holder’s information.
  • Trusted issuers only — only digital credentials from trusted issuers can be verified using NZ Verify. That means they must be accredited by the New Zealand government’s Trust Framework Authority or be an international mobile driver licence.

Privacy statement for NZ Verify

Easy to use

NZ Verify has a simple interface that makes it easy to scan, validate and view digital credential information.

The results screen clearly identifies if the credential is valid by displaying ‘Approved’ on a green screen or ‘Not approved’ on a red screen.

Can be used offline

NZ Verify works offline by storing a list of trusted credential types on the device. Once connected to the internet, it will automatically download the latest trusted credentials list.

If you’ve been offline for more than 3 days, you may be prompted to reconnect to update the trusted credentials list. The app still works but this makes sure you’re using the most up-to-date information.
