Get or renew a New Zealand passport
Apply online to get or renew a passport for yourself or your child. Adult passports are valid for 10 years. Child passports are valid for 5 years.

You must be a New Zealand citizen to apply for a New Zealand passport
If you were born outside New Zealand, you may be a citizen by descent. If you are a citizen by descent and have not yet registered your citizenship, you must do this before you can get a New Zealand passport. Find out more:

- renew or replace a current or expired passport
- change the name or gender in a passport
- replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport.
Adult passports
If you are 16 or older, you need an adult passport. Adult passports cost $247 and are valid for 10 years.
Child passports
Child passports are for children aged 15 and under. Child passports cost $144 and are valid for 5 years.
Once a child turns 16 their passport is valid until it expires or is cancelled. After that, they must renew their passport as an adult.

How to apply
To apply for a passport online you need:
- a RealMe login — if you don't have a RealMe account, you can quickly create one when you start your application
- a passport photo
- an identity referee
- a payment card, for example, a credit, debit or Prezzy® card.
If you are applying for a first passport
You also need a device with internet access and a camera.
If you are renewing a passport
If you have had a New Zealand passport before, you need to provide details from your most recent New Zealand passport. If you do not have your passport because it has been lost, stolen or damaged, you can fill out a declaration as part of your application.
If you are applying for a child passport
You must provide consent from a parent or guardian.
