SuperGold Card

If you’re an NZ resident aged 65 or over, a SuperGold Card or Veteran SuperGold Card gives you discounts and special offers.

Who can get a card

Anyone getting NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension automatically gets a SuperGold Card. The card is sent to you once your NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension is approved.

It normally takes around 3 weeks for the card to arrive in the post. If you apply for your NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension before you turn 65, it can take longer to arrive.

Not getting NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension

Even if you do not get NZ Super or a Veteran’s Pension, you may be able to get a SuperGold Card, if you’re:

  • 65 years or older
  • an NZ resident.

You need to apply for the SuperGold Card — it will not be automatically sent.

You’ll need to complete an application form and provide identity documents to prove who you are, such as your passport. The application form is available from Work and Income’s website.

Community Service Card users

If you use a Community Service Card, your details are added on the back of your SuperGold or Veteran SuperGold Card. This is called a combo card and you can use it for both health subsidies and SuperGold discounts.

The combo card has an expiry date and when it’s due to expire, you’ll be sent:

  • a new card, or
  • an application form if your income is close to the limit.

You can order a free replacement if your card is lost, stolen or damaged, or if you’ve changed your name. It takes around 3 weeks to arrive.
