Research Funding New Zealand
Research Funding New Zealand is an independent board that oversees how a large portion of public research funding is allocated across science, innovation and technology. This simplifies and streamline research funding by bringing most public research decision making into one organisation.
The board brings together leading New Zealand experts in science, innovation and technology.
They:
- ensure transparency in how funding decisions are made
- align funding with New Zealand’s Science Investment Plan and its four national priority pillars – economy, environment, health and society, and technology
- develop Pillar Investment Plans that set out the mix of funds and criteria needed to achieve national research goals
- monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of funded research, ensuring public money delivers value for New Zealanders.
Research Funding New Zealand replaces most existing research funding decision-makers, including the Marsden Fund Council, the Science Board, some MBIE functions and eventually the Health Research Council.
