Enrol and vote in an election

Learn how to vote in a general election and how to enrol on the general roll or the Māori roll.

  • Enrol to vote

    You can vote in NZ elections if you’re eligible and you’ve added your name to an electoral roll.

  • Register for the Māori electoral roll

    If you’re of Māori descent, you can choose to be on the Māori electoral roll or the general electoral roll when you vote in general elections.

  • Vote in an election

    Once you’re enrolled, you can vote in general elections, by–elections, referendums and local elections.
